Raven Iacono has been an artist for 25+ years and encaustic artist for more than 10 years.

She has had her artwork in numerous shows.

The latest show was the juried event: The 30th Annual Emeryville Art Exhibition

I started my art career as an oil painter and at the same time have always had my eyes on Encaustic Painting. Wax really speaks to me, the way it draws me into the work, by mysteriously obscuring some images yet inviting me to see through the layers of wax. It is the perfect way for me to express the many layers of my life.

I have been painting with wax for over 10 years, mainly on wood panels with some mixed media thrown in. During the middle of 2015, during a long drive I began dreaming of my next project and encaustic monoprinting came to me while driving through a giant redwood tree. It felt so profound to be driving through this amazing millennial tree while contemplating the millennia of encaustic painting. Every time I create a Monoprint or an Encaustic Painting, I leave a bit of myself on the plate and on the panel, which is how I envision the encaustic painters felt in the 1st Century.

My art as well as my vision of how I have perceived my life has changed over the years. Encaustic art is my way of letting you and I get a special peek of my memories; it whispers to us of my childhood hope. My experiences remain in my memories like little treasures that have left a big imprint on the artist I am now.

Encaustic & Dry Pigment Monoprints

I have been painting with encaustic (hot bees wax) for almost 10 years now and wanted to try my hand at mono-printing with wax. When I was in art school I loved printmaking and especially mono-printing. It was so immediate and quick; I loved the way you could pull only one print (and maybe a ghost print if you were lucky) off of all that you had done and maybe it turned out and maybe it didn’t. I feel that same way with the encaustic mono-prints I’ve been working on lately. The paper is Canson Edition Printmaking paper and the Encaustic Wax is R&F Encaustic. The combination of the 2 is amazing together!

These 6 paintings were entered into a juried art show in Emeryville, California. I will find out the week of the 18th of July whether or not they got in.

I really enjoy this process and will keep painting this way along with my traditional encaustic painting.
